Backstoppers Car Show

Monday, June 9th, 2008

We attended the Backstoppers Car Show today at the Elks Club in St Louis County, Mo and the weather was beautiful.  So were the 200 cars in attendance for Classic Car class judging.   The event was enjoyed by well over 200 spectators who mingled with the car owners.  The SLICK Car Club hosted the event had a difficult time with the judging, because of so many outstanding autos on exhibition.  Cars came in from as far away as 80 miles to travel to the always spectacular car show at the Elks Club on Ladue Rd.

CarWorldConnect.com talked to several car owners who said that this is one of the best of the season to be in attendance.  And I would have to say, “that the day was perfect, the cars were magnificent and the judging went smoothly.   The event proceeds raised funds for the St Louis Backstoppers, a wonderful charity organization sponsored by the St Louis Businesses who help the family survivors of fallen police officers killed in the line of duty.

We have a few pics of the Car Show.  Enjoy, and if you have any information you would like to post here at our blog about your car shows, feel free to do so.

2008 Nissan Frontier Truck

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Vehicle Overview
Nissan’s Frontier compact pickup truck comes in King Cab (extended cab) and Crew Cab forms. For 2008, the Frontier remains relatively unchanged except for minor option and feature changes. It is available with a Utili-track system that features movable, heavy-duty tie-down cleats and a spray-in bedliner. Utili-track accessories include sliding trays, bike racks, sliding dividers and modular storage systems. The Frontier is in the same market segment as the Chevrolet Colorado, Dodge Dakota and Ford Ranger. Both a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that develops 152 horsepower and 171 pounds-feet of torque and a 4.0-liter V-6 that generates 261 hp and 281 pounds-feet of torque are available. For 2008, the SE trim can be ordered with the four-cylinder. Both rear- and four-wheel-drive models are offered. A Nismo package is available that ups the ante for offroad use and includes performance shock absorbers and alloy wheels. The Long Bed Crew Cab SE and LE models have a bed that is more than 13 inches longer than the standard Frontier Crew Cab. A front passenger seat belt reminder light and auxiliary audio input jack are standard. A King Cab XE Appearance Package includes a chrome front bumper and 16-inch steel wheels.

Exterior
The Frontier is 205.5 inches long overall and uses a 125.9-inch wheelbase. King Cab models are 69.7 inches high, while Crew Cab trucks stand 70.1 inches tall. Both are 72.8 inches wide. Crew Cabs have four conventional front-hinged doors, whereas King Cab trucks have rear-hinged back doors.Nissan’s Utility Bed package — a protective bedliner — is now standard on Nismo-equipped King Cab Frontiers.Styling features include a grille with angled chrome inserts and chrome-plated bumpers. Nissan says the Frontier has short front and rear overhangs and large geometric fender flares. A tube-style roof rack can be installed, and wheels as large as 17 inches in diameter are available. Frontiers use a double-wishbone front suspension, rear leaf springs and rack-and-pinion steering.

Interior
Because of its increased exterior dimensions, the Frontier also has grown on the inside. King Cab models get flip-up rear seats. Leather-appointed power seats are available, as are heated seats and mirrors.

Under the Hood
The Frontier’s base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that develops 152 hp and 171 pounds-feet of torque; it has continuous variable valve timing and teams with either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. Most trims are equipped with the 4.0-liter V-6, which is rated at 261 hp and 281 pounds-feet of torque. The V-6 can work with either the five-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual. Nissan’s part-time four-wheel-drive system includes a Low range.

Safety
All-disc antilock brakes are standard. Seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags with rollover protection for both rows of seats are optional.

Auto Recalls

 Acura TLS Recall

Honda has issued a recall of 273,000 Acura TLs from the 2004-08 model years, citing two different mechanical issues. The first has to do with the windshield wipers. Approximately 129,600 ’04 and ’05 TLs could have wipers with a faulty circuit breaker that at some point could leave the wipers inoperable. Fixing the problem involves a simple trip to the dealer to check and replace the windshield wiper motor, if necessary. If you only have time to take care of one problem on your Acura TL, however, we kind of recommend this second one. In some cases, engine heat has caused a power-steering hose to crack, which could potentially leak steering fluid onto the catalytic converter. This could lead to a great deal of smoke or, in a worst-case scenario, fire. Honda wants to replace all the hoses. No one has yet reported an accident or injury due to either problem, but Acura will of course fix both free of charge. Clearly this is a bargain: A free windshield wiper motor and your car not catching on fire.

Ford Recalls 434,593 Mustangs

Ford has issued a recall for 434,593 Mustangs from the 2005-08 model years after tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showed there could be increased risk of neck injury during airbag deployment. According to NHTSA’s recall report, the risk of injury is greater for small females in the front passenger seat who are unbelted, sitting with their seat in the full-forward position. To fix the problem, Ford dealerships will reprogram a restraint control module free of charge. Recalls are expected to begin Feb. 28. Consumers can call 866-436-7332 or email www.ownerconnection.com.

Recall Alert: 2006-08 Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator

Ford announced today it is recalling nearly 124,000 2007-08 Ford Explorers and Lincoln Navigators for faulty door handles, and 57,000 2006-07 Navigator and Ford Expedition SUVs, plus Ford E-150, E-250 and E-350 vans, for faulty fuel pumps. The first recall impacts the most consumers and involves a spring system inside the door handles of the SUVs. The springs could break and prevent the handles from springing back to a closed position. Because of the defect, the latches could open during a side-impact crash. The other recall deals with a faulty fuel hose in the 5.4-liter V-8 engine that can crack and leak fuel and possibly lead to a fire. No injuries or accidents have been reported due to either problem, but dealers will replace all parts for both recalls at no cost. Letters will go out to owners over the next two months. Contact Ford at 800-392-3673 for more information.

Gas Prices Out of Control

Gas Prices Keep Climbing

What do daylight savings time, warm weather and political unrest on the Colombia-Ecuador border all have in common? They’ve all contributed to the first warning shots in what is shaping up to be a record-breaking year at the gas pump. Even as tensions cool between oil-rich Venezuela and its neighbors, the brief dustup involving a Colombian rebel group supported by Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez reminded us that the price of oil is never more than one international incident away from a severe spike.Oil has hit another record high of $107 per barrel, and the average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has hit $3.222 per gallon, which is just half a cent short of its all-time high of $3.227 last May.We wish the news got better. That price is a nine-cent leap from just two weeks ago, and according to USA Today, prices could jump another 20 to 30 cents in the next month alone. Conservative estimates from the Energy Department originally had the peak cost of gas for the summer season at $3.40, but it’s hard to believe that number won’t be adjusted upward. A new report is expected tomorrow. We don’t want to shout “fire!” in a crowded theater here, but 20 to 30 cents in a month is an enormous leap.According to an article on CNNMoney.com, another factor playing into the crude oil equation is foreign investment, spurred by a weak dollar. This has made for an artificial rise for crude even as demand has fallen, but may indicate that prices might level off if and when investors stop pushing prices upward. Speculation that gas will hit $4 a gallon before the end of the summer remains open to debate, but it probably wouldn’t hurt to start thinking about an office carpool well before that.
