The Cadillac, known for it’s luxurious ride and comfort for the upper crust of American consumers, and still so to this day, went to war against Hitler’s Panzer divisions in World War II. It made it’s impression on the Nazi war machine, but not in the same manner as the American Cadillac owner at home.
In 1942, the Cadillac Motor Car Division and US Army Engineers, joined forces in developing the M-5. The result was a highly maneuverable, high speed M-5 Tank, with a liquid cooled aircraft engine. Although it’s armor did not match the Nazi Mark IV tank, it did become a formidable foe to the German Panzer group won many of it’s battles by out maneuvering adversaries with good ole Yankee know how.The planning stages between Cadillac and the US Army were so top secret during research, that not all Cadillac divisions new of it’s existence until it had been introduced into battle against the Nazi tanks. Unlike Hitler, the Cadillac survived the agonies of war and proudly earned its place in the silent halls of war heroes. The next time you take a ride in your shinney new Caddy, or you see someone cruising by in one, you might think about what helped to make this Country the great place it is today.
Let’s not forget the real heroes of any war though, and keep in mind, that those who served and those who fought and died for our great country are the real heroes.
